Description

A couple of firsts here. First completed project using my new mono camera, the magnificent ASI183MM-Pro, and first open cluster.

This object is easily visible to the naked eye just to the southwest of Avior in Carina. It is known for having a very similar structure to the Beehive Cluster (M44), which is better viewed in the Northern Hemisphere. There are about 100 stars in the cluster, the brightest of which is a red giant near the centre.

The blue stars are a bit blown out, mostly because I'm using a Doublet, which doesn't correct as well for the blue channel. I'll work on using lower gain for blue in the future, but in the meantime I'm pretty happy.
