Description

NGC 3184, also called the Little Pinwheel Galaxy, is located at a. distance of 27 million light years. It hosted three supernovae at the beginning of the 20th century and a "supernova impostor", probably a flaring blue star, in 2010. I really like its intricate, well-detailed spiral arms and many star forming regions. In the lower right hand corner is NGC 3179, a huge lenticular galaxy at a distance of 375 million light years.
