Description

My original wide-field image of the Horse Head nebula included the Horse Head itself (Barnard 33), the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024), NGC 2023 and the red streamers of IC 434, in front of which we are able to see the dark pattern of the Horse Head. All else was dark and empty. Recently a friend showed me a very deep image he obtained of this area in which is visible large amounts of gas and dust to the east of the Horse Head. I went back to my original 2021 data and sure enough there was a lot more in there that I had missed. Here is the "New and Improved Wide-Field Horse Head Nebula", reprocessed to bring out everything east of (below in this image) the Horse Head and Flame.

The link above is to a full resolution, zoom-able image on my website.
