Description

The Heart Nebula (also known as the Running dog nebula, IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190) is an emission nebula, 7500 light years away from Earth, located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy, in the constellation Cassiopeia.  The central region of the nebula is characterised by the open star cluster, Melotte 15 (also known as Collinder 2).  The stellar winds from these stars give the nebula its morphology and colouration (through ionization of the gases in the nebula).
