Description

Right between Taurus, Aries and Perseus lies a group of objects from the van den Bergh catalogue. The most known representative is surely vdB 17, as it is embedded in the nebula NGC 1333, about 1,5° from its neighbour vdB16 shown here. The Mag 9 star HIP 16170 illuminates this reflection nebula surrounded by vast dust clouds – although this region looks adverse, it shows beginning of “life”. The Herbig Haro objects in the right part of the image, like HH249 and HH422.As one can imagine, it is much easier to image and process objects emitting or reflecting light, than parts of the sky that are very effective in swallowing light.CSRobert
