Description

M102 is also known as the Spindle Galaxy or NGC 5866 is located in Draco. NGC 3115 is also called the Spindle Galaxy but is a different object located in Sextans.

This object was long awaited first light for my new EQ6-R Pro. As received the mount had a large recurring RA deviation that matched the worm period. I requested service from SkyWatcher who immediately started working with me. It turns out Starizona located only a few miles away is now an authorized SkyWatcher service center. They were able to get replacement parts and repair my mount in a fraction of the time it would have taken had I shipped it to their primary repair facility. After verifying resolution of the issue, I created this image.

Even though I have a remote observatory, I wanted a telescope for my backyard especially for galaxy season. My Edge HD 8 setup isn't ideal for remote imaging as I often need to manually adjust the off axis guider to find a star. And I might have to find a new star after the meridian flip. So this setup is strictly hands-on.
