Description

Here is one of the photos I took during my stay at the "Baronnies Provençales Observatory", with friends from the "Stellae Orientis Team", of which I am a part.
This is the Flaming Star Nebula, also called IC405.
The colorimetry of this image is in LRGB-HOO.

The Flaming Star Nebula, officially named IC 405, is an emission and reflection Nebula, located in the constellation Auriga. It is about 1500 light years from Earth.
The red and blue colors of the nebula are present in different regions and are created by different processes. Bright star AE Aurigae (the bright star in the blue cloud), is so hot it's blue, emitting light so energetic it knocks electrons out of the surrounding gas. When a proton reclaims an electron, red light is frequently emitted. The blue color of the region, emitted by AE Aurigae, is reflected in our direction by the surrounding dust. This is why the two regions are called emission nebulae and reflection nebulae respectively.
