Description

The appearance of the nebula is a result of the stars in its center.Over the past two thousand years, the stars have periodically emitted layers of gas, resulting in the "wings" being heated to over 20,000 degrees Celsius, propagating through space at over 1,000,000 kilometers per hour.Located in the constellation Scorpius, NGC 6302 is situated between 2,500 and 3,800 light-years away.
