Description

Hello astro people, today I get to share with you an exciting image of three relatively nearby galaxies. This trio is called the Leo Triplet, because it's in the constellation Leo. These galaxies are called NGC 3628 (the hamburger galaxy), M65 and M66. They appear close in this image, and in fact are close (galactically speaking) in space, so close in fact that they're gravitationally interacting with each other, evident by the tidal tail coming off of the top of the Hamburger Galaxy. That tidal tail is part of the galaxy, gas and stars, being ripped away due to the intense interaction.

Zoom into this one on the full resolution version for some faint smaller galaxies and a lot more detail in all three of these main galaxy targets.
