Description

IC4604, the Rho Ophiuchi Nebula, is a reflection nebula illuminated by the small group of bright stars, Rho Ophiuchi, near the center of the image.  The resulting beautiful blue reflection nebula is only one part of the much larger, multi-colored Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex.  On top of the blue reflection nebula, dark clouds of light-absorbing dust are also seen in this image of IC4604, where North is down.  At ~360 light-years distance, the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex is one of the closest star-forming regions to our Solar System.

The 14.5 hrs of LRGB data were collected in Apr-July 2023  by DeepSkyWest in Rio Hurtato, Chile.
