Description

It was time to upgrade the mount, after the old  NEQ6 started to fail on me (lots of guiding errors, massive but very irregular spikes in both RA and DEC etc). Also, I was ready for something a little nicer, with integrated cable management etc.

Been agonizing over whether to get the CEM70g, or go bigger and try the EQ8-R - both somewhat close in price, oddly enough. However, I was able to try the EQ8 a couple of months ago - super annoying to set up and break down, and my unit had a mechnical issue that stalled the gears. To add insult to injury, I learned that the USB hub doesn't really work with USB-powered peripherals (essentially any and all things astro..). So back to the vendor it went. The CEM70 is actually light enough to carry as a unit, without having to disassemble it (barely, but it is doable). Also, the USB hub works ;)

The installation was a pain tho... iOptrons' software required me to run as admin, which I find questionable to say the least. Wouldnt install under my normal user, even when executed as admin. Switching to the admin account solved the issue, but took me a while to figure out.

Looking forward to the first real test tomorrow under clear skies...!
