Description

As a follow-on to previous images of this region I imaged it again using the excellent Samyang 85mm f1.8. lens and my Baader SII filter to obtain a complete SHO dataset.

Conditions were far from ideal with Moon being up, poor seeing, and plenty of light pollution, but the filter did a fine job of isolating the faint nebulosity. I would have liked to get a lot more integration time but it started getting light at about 3 AM which doesn't allow for much imaging at this time of year. Hopefully I'll be able to have a few more sessions and boost that precious SNR, particularly for the OIII and SII data.

This is probably the first time I've produced an SHO image that I actually liked, although it could do with better contrast and less obvious colour casts and would probably benefit from another attempt at processing. Initial stacking for each channel and composting into an SHO image was done in Astro Pixel Processor, together with light pollution removal and some colour and brightness correction. This image was put through Starnet++ to create a starless version and Affinity Photo was used to create a plate of just the stars. The stars plus starless nebulosity were then enhanced as separate layers in Affinity and blended to create the final result which had a few minor tweaks in Apple Photos to give a final result.
