Description

NGC 6974 and NGC 6979 are luminous knots of nebulosity found in the Veil Nebula/Cygnus Loop. While not as famous as the nearby Fleming's triangular Wisp,  these smaller structures are intriguing targets on their own accord.

While processing in PixInsight, I took advantage of Russel Croman's latest StarXTerminator script with AI Version 10, now with the Unscreen Stars function, which preserves the original star colors better than the prior StarMask generated stars.

The starless image was also de-noised with NoiseXTerminator, which seems to be giving better end results than MultiScaleLinearTransform and TGV Denoise combined. Sharpening of the nebula was done with some Deconvolution followed by UnSharpMask, then a touch a LocalHistogramTransformation.

Finally the original stars were reduced in size a bit with MorphologicalTransformation , and then returned to the image by blending in with PixelMath. Mr. Croman's new tools are simplifying the processing workflow quite a bit, helping generate higher quality final images in lesser time.
