Description

Not much clear sky time, between our mid summer thunder storms and hazy hot nights. M92 is a fine globular in Hercules, lying towards the zenith and oft overlooked for it’s bigger, and brighter neighbour; a ‘poor cousin’ as we say.

Lying over 25,000 LY away in the Milky Way, this is one of the oldest globular clusters at 11.5 billion years. It is thought to contain over 300,000 metal-poor stars, containing three different stellar populations.

The density of stars, and overall brightness, mag 6.6, make this a very difficult cluster to resolve to the core. Overall I’m happy with the results given poor imaging conditions, with only nautical darkness between 12-2am.
