Description

The North Eastern part of the Large Magellanic Cloud holds one of the richest star forming region of the Local Group, the Tarantula Nebula and its environs. Barely visible to the unaided eye, the Tarantula Nebula (30 Doradus) is a majestic deep sky target for both visual observers and imagers. At the nebula center shines star cluster Ngc 2070. Supernova 1987A exploded in the outskirts of the Tarantula Nebula some 160.000 years ago and its light reached Earth on February 23rd 1987.
