Description

Stars generally form in groups ranging from a few 10's to a few 1000's of stars. Some see a Butterfly in the pattern of stars in this star cluster. Located about 1600 light years away it spans an area of ~12 light years diameter and appears to us about 2/3 of a full moon diameter. Most of stars are hot blue stars but the brightest member is an orange giant star, quite prominently shown here.
