Description

Hello Astrobin friends!

Here is my final version (for now?) of my Cygnus panorama – its been a massive effort which is hopeful worth it

I have now cleaned up various issues with the Ha and Oiii combination of data from the Redcat 51 and …

I have merged in data for the main objects that I have captured with longer focal length scopesAlthough there is some loss of detail by reducing the size of these images to match the 250mm focal length there is more detail remaining than original captured with the Redcat 51.

I started consciously doing this in spring 2023 but the earliest data in the image (only a tiny sliver) dates back from May 2020

Thinking about it the image now contains
·       144 hours of exposure time
·       Data taken over four years
·       From 3 locations (Leeds, Ermita Nueva in Spain, Boughton Malherbe in Kent)
·       Data from four scopes (Mainly Redcat51 @ 250mm then 520 mm, 728mm and a tiny bit of 800m)

I have learned a lot in putting this together – i.e. made many mistakes along the way. The key thing is planning which I did very little of lol

The process of lining everything is tiresome and I guess there are some imperfections still but nothing too noticeable hopefully.

There were a few occasions were the bit of sky I thought I captured turned out to be entirely different to that intended – probably due to error in inputting the coordinates whilst enjoying the vino a bit too much in Spain 😊

Matching the colours was challenging also and the density of the star fields due to different sky qualities moon phases etc

I should say that I thought of trying this after getting the “Visible Universe” by Bracken and Whitby (they have created an image of the entire sky!)

Thanks to the fellow Astrobiners who have encouraged me along the way

There are further enhancements I could make on this (RGB stars?) but I will probably try this approach for some other areas of the sky first, we will see.

Please do have a look and tlet me know what you think !
