Description

There are many beautiful galaxies near the constellation Fornax that never reach more than 25 degrees above the horizon here in north Georgia.  This is my first attempt to image one of them, NGC 1097.  My view south is directly into the light dome of Atlanta, the center of which lies 50 miles to the south and makes imaging these Southern Hemisphere objects even more challenging.  Transparency was excellent but the seeing was on the poor side.  I got exactly two hours on the target before the nearly full moon rose and I shut things down.  The target was a mere 16 degree altitude at the start and rose to 25 at the end of the session.
