Description

Hello all! Long time no see!
Here's a novel for you to read if you care lol
Over the last 5 months, I've taken some time away from astrophotography to recenter my time and energy on family and Christ. Since then I have felt an incredible renewable of mind and heart and I couldn't be happier. The stories I could share would take far too long to type here but I hope someday we might run into each other at a star party so I can share everything that has happened. However, starting back fresh into this hobby, I've found a rekindled excitement to capture this incredible creation God has made and to share His handiwork with friends and family. I've been back at it for about a month now and I'm stoked to share the first of a few images with the astrophotography community. Since returning I've almost discovered a new eye for post-processing and I'm trying even more now to take a more natural approach to processing techniques. This image here is the fourth I've captured in a month but I felt tis the season for christmas trees lol

Acquisition:
I used the Redcat51 (native) and the Explore Scientific ED80 (.65x Starizona Reducer). Both equipped with 294MM cameras (one QHY and one ZWO). The image was cropped and aligned to the ED80 FOV. Captured from my backyard (b6). ED80 has 2" optolong filters and an astronomik 12nm Ha filter. Other gear info is listed.

Post Processing:
Drizzled data helped resolve diamond shaped stars caused by combining datasets from two different focal lengths. I used WBPP to calibrate the data and then manually star aligned the calibrated data to generate drizzle files for each dataset. I then saved the drizzled HaRGB files as XSIF and used Image Integration to combine all data for a synthetic Lum.

Generalized Steps:
DBE
RGB Combine
BlurXterminator (.6 nonstellar) on synthetic lum
Histogram Transformation - HaRGB
StarXterminator
NBRGBCombination (Add Ha to RGB)
Adjust colors and brightness using curves
Photoshop was used for layer masking. I adjusted brightness of region and masks to keep brightest areas tame.
NoiseXterminator (.70 denoise /.2 detail)
Recombine stars as a Screen Layer in Photoshop
Final pixel peeping tweaks and sharpness
Export as JPG

I hope you like the image! Have a wonderful holiday season! Merry Christmas!

"In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!" But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I am a virgin?" And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy--the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God." And Mary said, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her."
Luke 2:1-7

"In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn."
Matthew 1:18-25
