Description

This is my fresh look at the data of the question mark nebula that I acquired back in summer Y2021. Looking at my processing back then I wasn't happy with the result. I wasn't able to fit the object in one frame so I had to stitch three separate frames together.

For my mosaics I use the StarAlignment and the GradientMergeMosaic processes in PI.

However I didn't do a good job with the stitching - the last frame (the small Rosette nebula) had brighter background than the rest of the image. The brighter part was in the green and blue channels. So I tried to fix this and make a more seamless mosaic. I tried to:
- stack the images again;
- do a better job with brighter edges;
- do a better job with Dynamic Background Extractor;
Unfortunately no matter what I tried I just couldn't fix it

Then I decided to look elsewhere - a new mosaic script. And I am glad I did!

I tried the Photometric Mosaic script in PI. I read through its instructions and gave it a go. The result - the transition between the three frames can not be spotted now and I am happy with the result. It looks as one complete image. An image that I now really like. And I managed to pull even more details out.

CS,
Ivan
