Description

IC 417 is a diffuse emission nebula located in the constellation Auriga, about 10,000 light-years away from Earth. It is also known by its popular name, the Spider Nebula, due to its distinctive appearance resembling a spider with long, curved legs. The nebula spans an area of about 100 light-years and is illuminated by a cluster of young, hot stars at its center. The intense ultraviolet radiation from these stars excites the gas and dust in the nebula, causing it to emit light in various colors, ranging from red(yellow in Hubble palette) to blue.IC 417 is also notable for its filamentary structure, which is thought to have been formed by shockwaves from supernova explosions in the region. The filaments, which are made up of gas and dust, appear to be sculpted by the strong stellar winds of the hot, young stars.

This target is usually imaged along side the "fly" framing the spider and the fly together. I noticed a very interesting gas structure in the top right of the frame and decided to frame the Spider with that object instead. I felt it added a bit more structure and interest in the surrounding gas.

Thanks for looking and CS
Dan.
