Description

When the weather in Hanoi gets better, it's time to try something new! The targets I chose this time are the Spider and Fly nebula. However, the apparent size of these nebulae is a bit small compared to the fov provided by my setup. Therefore, I arranged to capture them with two open star clusters, M38 and NGC1907. And it turns out, this combination brings surprising result! This region has plenty of Ha, but little of OIII. With nearly 15 hours of integration time taken on the best nights, I only captured very weak OIII at the centers of the two emission nebulae. Image processing is also relatively difficult when faced with a wide fov and many complex targets like this.

I also found a tiny planetary nebula hidden behind the dense stars of open star cluster M38. It is Abell 9 or PK172+00.1. This nebula is so small, only 0.67 arcminute in diameter, and exceptionally dim, listed at magnitude 18.9. Quite an interesting target that I could only spot on starless image!
