Description

Was not going to image this week due to poor forecast but decided to check the sky after realizing that the moon transit was on.  Glad I did as the conditions were favorable with low surface winds and no clouds.

Started imaging just before 10:30pm AEST and continued until 12:30am producing 250GB of data out of which half was of usable quality. The seeing continued to fluctuate throughout the session, luckily some of the best stacks eventutated around midnight as Tethys began to slide in front of Saturn's cloud deck.

This view combines 12,000 frames over 43-minute period, the moon is visible as a bright dot on top of the image followed by its shadow at 4 o'clock. It is transiting southern hemisphere of the planet from right to left. In addition, two other moons are visible to the west of Saturn: brighter Dione and fainter Enceladus closer to the ring plane. As other observers have noted with bigger instruments, SEB appears disrupted. Centre of this activity is crossing the CM, northern latitudes appear relatively quiet.
