Description

In January 2024 I paid a short "visit" to Vesta. Though of course no surface details are visible, its motion compared to the sky background can clearly be made out in this 3 1/2 hours animation.

Discovered in 1807 by German astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Matthias Olbers, Vesta (with a diameter of roughly 500 km) is one of the biggest bodies of the main asteroid belt. Under dark skies it can even be seen with the naked eye.

Capturing details: 45 exposures with 60 seconds each
