The Elephants Trunk nebula needs no introduction. A bright and feature packed area of the sky. Imaging this was fairly straight forward for me, however my equipment thought different. As the title states I imaged this in -41C, no wind chill factored in, just brutal cold! Everything was going well until it was time to switch target after this target set. I went to slew and a loud and strange noise started coming from the mount and no movementI think it finally froze solid and packed it in. I rushed outside at 2am, yes in -41C, to quickly cut power to stop whatever was happening. I brushed us against 2 usb cables and they both snapped off like dry twigs! I threw the cover on and started the thawing process, which took about 5 days for the temperatures to get warm, which was -10C! I have serious pinched optics happening with my stars, causing 6 sided "diffraction " spikes", but I left them as they reminded me of James Webb space telescope spikes! So I can say with confidence that the EQ6-R pro has a temperature limit of -41C. All other equipment was fine. The camera was at -45C and only using 3% power to cool, no usb or power issues with the pocket power box advance. After the thaw everything was testing and working fine, these toys we have can sure handle the elements! The data from the nebula was so clean and very easy to process, wonder if the cold had a hand in that? Thanks for looking.CS Dan.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
