The inspiration for this image comes from the wonderful astrophotographs of this object by two of my favourite imagers
@Logan Carpenter and
@Anne-Maree McComb Both have taken superb images of this challenging object, and you should look up their images as far better examples of this DSO.
However, I was interesting to see what I could achieve with a relatively small scope on an average-seeing - but dark - site. Also took the opportunity to attempt my first HOO images with RGB stars, as I wanted to bring out the blue colour of the central WR star responsible for the expanding shell of gas.
I really needs a lot more - and a larger aperture telescope. I intent to re-visit once I have my new RC12 in a week's time, but thought it might be a fitting object for one of my last images with the RC8 to show that there is still (sone) life in the old scope.
