Description

Here is an image that I started several months ago.  Puerto Rico's tropical climate during the summer is never friendly for imaging and this year is no exception.  Once I accumulated 5 hour exposure with the hydrogen alpha filter and 6 hours with the oxygen III filter I decided to give it a try.  I have to admit that I was very surprised with the outcome, but I am not giving up on this one yet.  I want to double the integration time and add the RGB stars.  Therefore,  l will keep my fingers crossed hoping for a clear spell once the Full Moon is over.

Taken with my modest equipment from my heavily polluted sky and highly obstructed backyard in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Thanks for watching and clear skies!

Title: NGC 6888 - Crescent Nebula

Description: Applied a different HDRMT scaling function. Now I can see what's behind all that bright Ha nebulosity. Do you agree?

Description: It has always been an uphill battle to clean the "spotchy" background in all my astroimages. After so many raving reviews about Russell Croman's NoiseXterminator I went ahead and gave it a try. I gave it a try with this one and I have to say I am extremely impressed about the a great job it does while preserving the object's fine details. This tool is definitely a keeper for me and will be part of my processing workflow from now on.

Title: NGC 6888 - Reprocessed with Dynamic Narrowband Combination (Color Modifiers)

Description: A few weeks ago I found a couple of tutorials about a new technique to combine narrowband channels. The technique was published on thecoldestnights.com blog and is known as Dynamic Narrowband Combinations with PixelMath. Instead of assigning a static factor or relative weight to each channel, an image is created that is used as a dynamic factor and a formula adjusts that dynamic factor according to the intensity of the signal in each pixel. Interesting, huh?!?
It took me a while to figure out how the "f" image works, but once I did, I went ahead and reprocessed my NGC 6888 using that technique and was amazed at the results. The Power of Inverted Pixels formula together with the dynamic factor perfectly balances the signal contribution of the different channels, for which I not only obtained a more "natural" color, but also many more details not only within the object but also the nebulosity that surrounds it.
In my opinion, this technique is very good, so from today it will be part of my image processing toolbox. Here is the link for those who are interested in more information about the technique: https://thecoldestnights.com/.../pixinsight-dynamic.../. Adam Block also explains the technique very well in the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRfeUWfrsKc
