Description

2023 Oct Annular Solar Eclipse in the surreal Marmitas do Rio Carnaúba, UNESCO Seridó Geopark, Brazil.

Me and a friend got a car in Rio de Janeiro and traveled 2500km to UNESCO Seridó Geopark (@geoparque_serido) at the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. During the planning for the 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse I decided to go to a semi desert area of Brazil because October is a month typically with raining coming back to the country. I used the data collected by meteorological station on Parelhas. Seridó Geopark is composed by many cities and I limited the region around the center of the Eclipse. This includes Cerro Corá, Lagoa Nova, Currais Novos, Acari and Carnaúba dos Dantas. The landscapes included Marmitas do Rio Carnaúba (observed in the shot), Cânion dos Apertados, Açude Gargalheiras among others. At Açude Gargalheiras I found a spectacular farm in a valley between mountains and the açude (pound). A paradise I thought it would be the local. However, when I went to Marmitas it looked like I was in other planet and then I wanted to shot both. The new plan was to camp on the farm and measure how long did it take to move to Marmitas. I left the farm at 14h and let and equatorial mount and time lapse on the farm and took a small boat during 15 minutes followed by 40 min drive to Marmitas where I got almost every shot since many clouds appeared in the farm. Shooting from  both was the best decision. The Eclipse and Seridó's Geopark Marmitas looking like lunar soil were included at this shot at 16:44 when the centered position of the moon would be reached at 16:46. However, I observed the cloud invading the frame and took many shots before 16:46 when it was actually covered. Inspired on Kubrick's 2001 film.
