Description

From the first time I’ve seen this galaxy, I wondered what the hell’s going on there.  The size of the jets are just impossible to imagine.   A galaxy like no other and it’s only 12MLY’s away.

I was inspired by a recent YouTube video I stumbled upon, "NASA Said We Couldn’t do It",#here.  Their story:  In the core of a galaxy 10 million light years away lurk extremely violent star clusters containing tens of thousands of stars that are going supernova at an extraordinary rate. These seeds of Armageddon are ripping the galaxy apart. According to Nasa it is only possible to see these exceptionally violent star clusters with a space telescope like Hubble but in this video the biscuit man along with a few hundred amateur astrophotography nerds set about using a special technique called lucky imaging to prove NASA wrong.

This image is entirely from my backyard, B7.  Getting a bit of detail of these fascinating jets was my goal.  BXT, NXT and SXT made this amount of detail possible.  I can hardly believe this result.   I know I overdid it a bit, but I’d probably do the same if started from scratch again. (actually I did start from scratch several times).   I look forward to going after this from my dark site…if it every gets clear again.   Like I said, M82 never gets old.
