Description

NGC4284 and NGC4290 form a close pair, but it is unlikely that the 2 galaxies are physically related, as their radial velocity indicates a distance of 192 Mly for NGC4284 and 140 Mly for NGC4290.
NG4284 is a highly inclined spiral galaxy with a small, bright core and two bright, narrow spiral arms expanding in a broader spiral structure. NGC4290 is a barred spiral galaxy with a bright, elongated core attached to a bright bar. The bar is attached to a pseudo ring which is especially bright where it meets the bar. Another very faint edge-on galaxy is visible 3.75' east of NGC4290.
