Description

M8, aka the Lagoon Nebula, is a large, bright emission nebula located in the constellation Sagittarius. This nebula spans an area of sky about three times the size of the full moon. It is located 4,100 light years from earth in the constellation Sagittarius.

In the upper right corner is M20, aka the Trifid Nebula. It is located 5,400 light years from earth also in the constellation Sagittarius. This star-forming region includes a combination of an open star cluster, an emission nebula, a reflection nebula and a dark nebula. This dense cloud of dust and gas combined creates one of the most beautiful deep sky objects in our night sky.
