Description

I didn't like summer much even before I got into astrophotography!.....short nights, clouds, dew, bugs, and the moon.....ok, maybe I can't blame summer for that. Anyhow, can't wait for nights with hand warmers in my pockets and a hood plus a hat plus a hood.....

M63 was tricky for me, trying to do what I wanted with the galaxy and background without losing the stuff in between. I especially wanted to preserve the squiggle (UGCA 342) just below the  bright star just a bit to the right of the galaxy (according to one paper, previously classified as a separate galaxy (Magellanic irregular or tidal dwarf), but more likely part of M63). My masking finesse still needs some work though....

Like with Whirlpool, nights where desperation had me imaging under the moon provided subs that, after debayering and SCNR (green), have a very blue cast. Is that common to moon light and/or dslr's?
