NGC 2403 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardis. It is an outlying member of the M81 group and is approximately 8 million LY distant. It bears a similarity to M33, being about 50,000 light years in diameter and containing numerous star-forming H II regions. The northern spiral arm connects it to the star forming region NGC 2404. The latter is 940 light-years in diameter, making it one of the largest known H II regions (Source Wikipedia).

The objective of this project was to obtain a detailed image of the galaxy including the H II and OIII regions. I therefore imaged the galaxy with 600s subs in L, R, G, B, Ha, Bin1 and OIII in Bin2. During the pre-processing I drizzled 2-fold the stacks to better appreciate the details. With respect to the colors, I used SPCC with a spiral galaxy as reference. Upon adding the Ha and OIII signals, I took particular care to avoid distorting the original colors of the galaxy. Of note, although the OIII emissions were clearly visible in my subs, they became barely visible in the final image.

With respect to noise, I denoised only the very dim regions, so to avoid generating artefacts on the galaxy itself. The apparent granularity that can be oberved on the galaxy is not linked to noise, but to the presence of stars.
