Description

First completed image with my new Newtonian!
The Dumbbell Nebula is a planetary nebula located in Vulpecula and is among the largest, brightest, and most familiar planetary nebulae in the sky. Planetary Nebulae are one outcome of the life cycle of a dying star. Red giant stars towards the end of their life eject their outer layer of gases as they cool to form a spherical, ever-expanding cloud representing a "fading planet". The star cools to a white dwarf. The nebulosity fades as it continues to cool, meaning that in 10,000 or so years, the Dumbbell Nebula could be no longer visible.
