Description

NGC 7822 is an emission nebula located in Cepheus, about 3,000 light years away.  It is a violent, chaotic deep-sky region where young stars are being born, their powerful radiation ionizing the surrounding gas and causing it to glow.  These energetic stellar winds are also carving out the dusty streams and pillars seen throughout the nebula.

The field of view on this version of NGC 7822 is an area rarely imaged, where the combining contrast of Hydrogen Alpha, Oxygen III and Sulphur II are on full display.

This image was taken over the span of several evenings, totaling 21 hours of data acquisition.
