Description

I rarely do planetary nebula, because I don't have the focal length and resolution with my ED80.   However, the CDK-14 at SRO is more than capable with Linda Thomas-Fowler and Chris Kagy behind the wheel.  This was collected over September and October.  NGC-7293, the Helix Nebula, aka the Eye of Sauron, is a planetary nebula in Aquarius, the first planetary nebula found to contain 'cometary knots' which can very nearly be viewed in this particular image or maybe it is my pareidolia acting up.  I am crediting Tim Triche as our wise and generous research group leader (PI).  This was processed primarily in Astropixel Processor, with some cosmetic enhancements from Pixinsight and Lightroom.  The images were cosmetized and stacked in PI, then the RGB combination was done in APP using the RGBSHO palette carefully weighting the Green, Blue, O3 and S2 to avoid an overwhelming fuchsia tone.  The image was background corrected and the star colors were  calibrated in APP. Noise reduction and stretching were completed in Pixinsight, followed by final cosmetic touches in Adobe Lightroom.
