This image has been a testing ground for a few different processing techniques in PI. I've recently watched a lot of Adam Block's videos and have picked up a variety of different techniques from him: I highly recommend checking his work out for those who have not. Guaranteed you will learn something.

Anyway, for this image, I tried out HDRMT, a different way of using TGVDenoise, using Starmasks in a variety of different ways to keep that central star from becoming oversaturated while also working on the nebulosity, and a few different tweaks to my sharpening process. Also, because the Ha and the Oiii signals are so distinct, I couldn’t use Ha as luminance as I often do, so had to create a blended synthetic luminance channel that captures the elements of both signals. It was fun. And while the image can ALWAYS be better, I definitely am happy with the result--it's the image I had in my head and an overall general improvement for me in terms of processing, though I'll probably continue to tweak in the coming days after taking a step away from it for a while.

Description: Re-did everything starting from RGB combine. Tried for better star de-emphasis using MT/MLT, tried a new noise reduction process called GREYCstoration that did a good job of eliminating pixelated artifacts, and generally aimed for better balance in the final image without over-sharpening/over-noise reduction. Hopefully achieved a better result, though sometimes it's hard to see the forest through the trees.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
