Description

The open cluster in the center of this image is M35, discovered by Philippe Loys de Cheseaux in 1745.  M35 is approximately 2800 light years from us, and includes several hundred hot young blue-white stars.  The more compact cluster to the lower right is NGC 2158.  NGC 2158 is much further away at 16,000 light years, and is composed of older yellow stars.
