Description

M13 - Lum taken 5/14/20 and 6/2/20; RGB taken 7/9/20.

One of about 150 known globular clusters of the Milky Way, M13, the Hercules Cluster, consists of a few hundred thousand stars and is about 25,000 light years from Earth. It has a diameter of 145 light years. Near the core, the density of stellar population is about 100 times greater than the density in the neighborhood of our sun. These stars are so crowded they can, at times, run into each other and even form a new star - these “blue stragglers” appears to be younger than the other stars in their immediate vicinity.
