Description

Here is my latest image, an HOO version of Abell 85, also known as the Medulla Nebula.  This object is a supernova remnant located in the constellation of Cassiopeia about 9700 light years from Earth.  The nebula itself spans approximately 98 lights years in diameter.  The deep red color of the nebula comes from light emitted by energized Hydrogen (Ha), but also has an area shining in blue/green light from energized Oxygen (Oiii) atoms. The surrounding area is also energized Ha.This was a very challenging object to image and process - it is incredibly faint - and represents about 22 hours of data, and countless hours to process to maximize the Ha and Oiii data that was captured. It was a delicate dance between stretching to bring out the fine faint details without losing/clipping data.  This is a cropped image to highlight the nebula detail and Ha and Oiii data.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did capturing and processing.
