Description

NGC 1499, the California Nebula, is an emission nebula in Perseus stretching nearly 2.5 degrees, thus a really nice target for the 135 mm lens.   Menkib (Xi Persei) is the bright blue star immediately to the right of the nebula, and is a primary source of ionization for NGC 1499, which is also known as Sh2-220. I was a bit surprised how pink this came out after SPCC in PI.  Fortunately, I looked a some of the wide angle views on AstroBin, otherwise I am not sure I would have taken the same care with the background extraction, preserving a lot more surrounding dust.
