Description

Wow, this was hard to process. Third attempt, arriving at this version after hours of back and forth trying to pull out the nebulosity, retain all the molecular clouds, and manage the number/brightness of the stars.

I have been looking for wide field images to take, and this one from the vdB catalog has five DSOs located in the constellation Cassiopeia. Since Astrobin reported this image cannot be plate solved, from left to right:
  1. vdB8 (or LBN 643), a small elongated reflection nebula
  2. vdB9 (the blue nebulosity in the center of the image) and LDN1357 which is the dark nebula right next to it. vdB 9  is illuminated by SU Cassiopeiae, a magnitude 5 dwarf Cepheid star located about 1,400 light years from Earth.
  3. LDN1355, another dark nebula to the right of LDN1357
  4. vdB 7 is located at the lower right of the field just to the left of the star RZ Cassiopeiae,  but is lit by a much fainter star.
