Description

NGC3226 forms an interacting pair with NGC3227 and together they are designated as Arp 94. NGC3226 classification is somewhat uncertain, likely S0, while its larger companion NGC3227 is a bright barred spiral galaxy with a small core and a short dusty bar. The western spiral arm, which emerges from the galaxy to the S, seems to connect with and pass through NGC3226.
This system is about 48 mly away and the angular size of the two galaxies is respectively 3.2'x2.8' and 5.4'x3.6'. Objects H28_2 and H29_2 in the William Herschel catalog (where _2 stands for "faint nebulae"). From Mark Bratton's "The complete Guide to Herschel's objects").

Le couple de galaxies en interaction NGC3226 et NGC3227 dans le Lion (Arp 94) . Le bras spirale de NGC3227 semble se connecter avec et passer à travers NGC3226. On voit également plusieurs petites galaxies d'arrière plan.
