Description

Despite being located some 25,000 light years from Earth, the Globular Cluster in Hercules is one of the brightest objects on Charles Messier's list of deep sky subjects. Most of the stars in the image are between 12 and 14 billion years old, but a few of the stars--the so called "blue stragglers"-- are newer, mostly formed from the recent merger of older, cooler main sequence stars.
