Description

The source supernova that created this, and the western-half "Witch's Broom", detonated some 15,000 years ago, and, apparently, was probably daytime-visible. The intricate filaments of nebulosity give an idea of just how long it's been expanding. Recent measurements put it in the neighborhood of 2,400 light years distance.
