Description

A lot going on in this image focused on the Flaming Star Nebula (bottom left quadrant). The central star in the Flaming Star Nebula is AE Aurigae and ionizes and lights up this impressive nebula.....but it actually wandered its way into it and was not born there. Instead about 2 million years ago, this star was ejected from the famous Orion nebula due to massive collision with another star in the constellation.

It the top center of the image is another large nebula IC 410 affectionately know as the Tadpole Nebula. Before you go crazy trying to see how it looks like a tadpole, the name actually comes from two relative dense streamers trailing away from the central portion of the nebula that are responsible for star formation regions. These aren't well seen with this telescope/camera configuration with the amount of time I had to dedicate to this image (~4.5 hours). If you know what they look like, you can kind of see the two tadpoles at about 3 o'clock escaping the central pond.

To the right of the Tadpole Nebula is the Spider and Fly Nebula (IC 417). You can imagine a spidery looking nebula, but the "tiny" fly nebula actually sells the name as it looks like it is running from the spider and nearly escaped my sensor as well!

Finally, in the far right of the image is M38 or the Starfish Cluster which is an open cluster of stars. Not sure I see the Starfish but so named because this cluster has a more "cross-like" appearance than most round globular clusters.
