Description

Omega Centauri (NGC5139) is a really massive globular cluster well known to observers in the Southern hemisphere, but it can also been seen from Southern latitudes in the US. In Southern Arizona at this time of the year it appears above the southern horizon for a few hours reaching a maximum elevation of about 10 degrees. This image was taken over one hour with my FC-100DZ (reduced to 510mm FL) and ASI533MC Pro, together with calibration frames.  I also observed it with my 7 x 35 and 12 x 38 binoculars. If it wasn’t so low in the sky it would be a naked eye object; perhaps it already is for someone whose pupils dilate more than mine.
