Description

Two hours and eight minutes of integration out at a Bortle 4 dark site outside Scottsdale Arizona (Sears Kay Ruins), shooting from a Rokinon 135mm lens at f/2.5. Amazing what fast optics and dark skies can do. This region doesn't have any emission nebulae -- just a bright star inside this dust cloud illuminating it. It's amazing how dusty some regions of space are -- not at all open black but lots of dark material up there reflecting and blocking light sources.

My favorite thing is the tiny galaxy that snuck into the shot. In this little speck of 50 some pixels, every star some life-bearing planet there could ever hope to understand, make constellations from, and in the best chances, travel to, all just pinched down to a tiny spiral in a hobby picture. Crazy to imagine what is going on in there - someone looking back at us?
