Description

This is a four-panel mosaic of the region surrounding the North America Nebula.  It's my first mosaic, and a good learning experience.  I think on the next one, I will allow for more overlap.  I noticed that panel two was all kinds of crooked, so it didn't end up overlapping as much as I'd like.  I think I need to add a Center After Drift trigger in NINA to make sure the panels stay on target throughout the night, since it is critical for overlap.  As a result, if you look closely, there are a few spots that show seems of noise where the panel would have normally been cropped, but in this case was not cropped because it would have cropped out the overlap.

Just for fun, I dithered 2x each panel and then combined them.  Made for some long processing times, but I think it was worth it.  The amount of resolution is really fun to zoom in with and play around.

I'm not sure what's going on with the two bright stars in the image.  They appear to have jets of Hydrogen and "Not Hydrogen" surrounding them.  I'm not sure if that's an artifact of my imaging train, or something of celestial interest.  I leave things like that in my images, as I like to try to faithfully represent and amplify the light I capture, and not try to hide anything for aesthetics.  Unless it's microlensing from my sensor.  That sucks.

Title: Reprocessed

Description: This is a reprocess from scratch, using PhotometricMosaic to stitch together the mosaic panels. This removed the strange halos and coloration around the bright stars, and also gave me more control over where to draw the boundaries between each set of images.

Another enhancement is using StarNet to remove stars and process starless/stars independently. I didn't do this earlier because I had grown weary of waiting for PI processes to complete on this gigantic image. I took a note from one of Cuiv's videos, and I did the StarNet starless processing on each channel before doing color combination, then I combined and processed those starless versions. This removed the dark halos that would appear from doing the star extraction on the already combined image. I tamed the star colors a bit on the star_mask before recombining.

Finally, I jazzed it up with a better stretch, more contrast, and a fun session with the Hue settings in Curves. Glad I took another pass at this. I really like the golds that popped up around the perimeters, and anytime I can see a nice, rich, baby blue, my eyes get happy. Still maybe a bit too green, but I didn't want to kill the green too much, as that's where all the data is.

Title: A (More) Reasonable Size

Description: I think I broke Astrobin with the massive resolution of the original uploads, so here's one that is more consumable (hopefully).
