Description

Not an Arp galaxy, for a change but still a very interesting one. NGC 4449,

visually looks like a box in the sky and through the ccd camera looks much the

same just a bit brighter.

In CVn, it's very bright at mag. 9.4 and it has a high surface brightness (12.3)

so it's quite easy to both see and image. About 5' x 4' across the sky means in

fits nicely in the fov of most telescopes. NGC 4449 is a dwarf IBm galaxy

undergoing star burst activity probably as a result of an interaction with

another galaxy, which is not immediately apparent in the image. The field is

actually quite barren. Distance to ngc 4449 is estimated to be around 9 Mly

making it a near enough for the studies of early type starburst galaxies.

This image recorded on the 30th May consists of 30 x 120 second exposures. Image

acquired and processed as always in AstroArt 3, with a bit of help from

PixInsight and NEAT Image.
